Showing how a marina could be built to compete
Marina di Loano
A new marina on the Ligurian Coast of Italy, within cruising distance of Corsica, Monaco and the French Riviera. The marina has been designed to cater for all sectors of the market, with full facilities including a shopping mall, bars and restaurants, along with a beach club and fish market.
Our role in this project was to carry out a thorough technical and operational audit of the marina’s plans, and to advise how to make the most profitable use of the marina.
We formed an audit team with a range of skills across marina operations, sales and marketing, engineering, health and safety, environmental and business management.
We began with a detailed study assessing Marina di Loano’s position within the market. This included a detailed study of the other marinas in the area. We then built a numerical model to mathematically synthesise the marina market in Liguria and the neighbouring French regions. This gave a statistical appraisal from which we were able to draw conclusions on how to position Marina di Loano to compete in the market.
The audit looked at how the marina was performing in terms of management and operations, design and construction of the marina infrastructure, environmental considerations and the berth sales process. With our knowledge of the marina’s position within the market and where it wanted to be in order to compete, we were able to make recommendations on services and facilities needed, management procedures and systems – as well as on pricing.
The marina completed its redevelopment and the team took on board the recommendations that we made. The marina is now well established and successful.
