Sant Carles Marina and MDL

Completed in 2008, the vision for Sant Carles Marina was to provide the very best of what MDL customers enjoy in the UK, whilst enjoying the attractions and climate of the Mediterranean. The development caters for all local and international customers’ needs with an infinity swimming pool, café bar and leisure club.

OUR TASK

Our challenge was to expand our own marina operations into Europe by developing a brand new MDL marina in Catalonia, Spain, in joint venture with a Spanish marina partner. This included everything from the initial marina business planning, design, equipment specification and selection through to operating the marina and berth sales.

OUR APPROACH

Our in-house team worked closely with a Spanish partner to deliver everything needed to shape and develop Sant Carles into a thriving marina resort. Our initial work involved studying the local market and investigating the potential to introduce an international dimension by marketing to prospective UK customers. This was followed by the business strategy, accompanied by a detailed business plan.

The construction was led by our local partner, extensively supported by our team. We appointed an MDL General Manager to be resident on-site during the construction and beyond to ensure the operational requirements of the marina were fully provided for within the infrastructure.

We were responsible for delivering everything from initial market research through selection and installation of the pontoons to selling berths at the marina and providing the day to day operational management.

THE RESULT

Sant Carles Marina was opened on time with initial berth sales targets met ahead of construction. The marina continues to be one of the leading marinas in the region, with a diverse customer base including locals and international customers.
