Supported by the Brixham Lottery the town will between 7th to 11th May mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, with over 40 FREE public events and activities.
On Thursday 8th May (VE Day) 80 years ago, locally and nationally communities came together, to celebrate the end of World War 2 (1939-1945) in Europe. As a country we mourned those that were lost, thank those that fought and look forward to the future with hope.
In Brixham, during the week we will be remembering the members of the Armed Forces and Merchant Navy especially our local heroes and heroines who gave their lives or returned home injured in body and mind. We will also remember the women and men who operated the factories, mines, shipyards and farms including the Women’s Land Army and Women’s Timber Corps. The ARP wardens, police officers, doctors, nurses, fireman, local defence volunteers and others who toiled on the home front during difficult, frightening and uncertain times.
To mark this historic occasion, Brixham Future CIC and our local Voluntary Sector will be delivering over 40 FREE public events drawing our community together.
Between Wednesday 7th to Sunday 11th May 2025, The events and activities will commemorate the enormous sacrifices made at home and abroad, but also linked to joyously celebrate, as people did 80 years ago, with arrival of peace in Europe.
