Brixham Marina Winter News

We’d like to start off by saying a massive thank you to all our berth holders for keeping your boat with us this year. Wow! What a season it’s been so far. Here are a few of the highlights.

We started the year with the country battling some ferocious winds and challenging sea conditions during Storms Dudley and Eunice. As we always do, the team worked tirelessly day and night and did their very best to keep your pride and joy safe. Also, during February, we made further improvements to the marina and removed our waste skip and introduced general waste bins and recycling bins – our way to a greener marina.

As we went into March, MDL held an employee conference where Jamie Abbs and Stephen Eales won individual ‘Special Recognition Awards’ and the whole of the Brixham team won a ‘Team Special Recognition Award’ for their hard work during the winter storms. During March, we also conducted piling works where we invested heavily into the replacement of several piles, multiple repairs being conducted and protection painting.

When we sailed into April, there was plenty of Easter Treats available at the Marina Office. We raised a good amount of money for Rowcroft Hospice with our ‘Guess the Sweets in the Jar’ competition. We also welcomed some new members to the team who assisted throughout the season: Eric, Barry and Harry. We also saw the return of some seasonal members: Steve, Gary and Chris. These guys have been fantastic for us throughout this year.

When May arrived, the marina and the whole of Brixham was taken over by Pirates for the annual Pirate Festival. Berth Holders were awarded prizes for ‘Best Dressed Adult’, ‘Best Dressed Child’ and ‘Best Dressed Boat’. There were some amazing costumes. We even welcomed SV Atyla (1800’s inspired sailing ship) who had travelled from Spain to join the marina and the town’s Pirate festivities.

Talking of festivities, this year we saw the return of our Trolley of Treats on various dates throughout the summer – the Rose wine seemed particularly popular. We also welcomed Andy and Deck Chair Gin to the marina who offered complimentary Gin tasting on two occasions during the summer – very nice indeed and thank you Andy.

After a busy season, in September, we welcomed the return of the Berth Holders’ Party. It was a Hawaiian themed evening with plenty of fun – you lot sure know how to party! It was a memorable evening and we also raised over £1,600 for the RNLI & Torbay Hospital Radio.

With the winter fast approaching, we’ll continue to invest in the marina. We’re conducting further wave screen maintenance during November and December, which will aid with protecting us from those North Westerly winds. We recently wrote to you with some suggestions on how best to prepare for the winter season – as always, just pop in and speak with us or pick up the phone if you need any assistance over the winter period.

We’re looking forward to the new season. The events calendar will be just as packed, and fun-filled as before!
