Highlights at Brixham Marina: News and updates for our customers

This year has flown by! We’d like to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone who chose to keep their boat with us in 2024. Your continued support plays a vital role in making our marina a great success.

Welcoming New Team Members

It’s been another busy year, and the team has done a fantastic job managing the marina. At the start of the season, we were thrilled to welcome several new faces.

• Darren Steyn joined us full-time in April after a successful period as a casual worker.
• Andy Penrose transitioned to full-time in May and was nominated for a Special Recognition Award for his outstanding work.
• Scott Farrar joined the team as Marina Supervisor, further strengthening our team.

Community Events

As we sailed through the season, we held many memorable events:

• Pontoon Treats: We held several ‘Table of Treats’ events on the pontoons, featuring delicious samples from local suppliers.
• Crab Fishing Competition: Our first-ever Crab Fishing Competition in August was a big hit, complete with music and commentary from Torbay Hospital Radio and face painting by ‘Faces, Glitz & Glam.’ We’re keen to continue this event in the future.

As with last season, we were delighted to welcome plenty of visitors to Brixham Marina. Even though the weather wasn’t always on our side, the marina certainly shone.

Improvements this Year

We’ve made great progress with several improvements this year:

• Pontoon replacements: In July, we replaced various pontoon sections throughout the marina.
• Surveys: In August, we had the entire wave screen and piles surveyed in preparation for this winter’s works.

Keeping the marina clean

To tackle the challenge of bird droppings, we’ve partnered with a professional company to patrol the marina with a bird of prey. This year, we’ve had the pleasure of a Harris's Hawk, and we’ll be continuing with this initiative next year to help maintain a cleaner marina.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we move into winter and the new year, we’ve got plenty planned for 2025:

• New Vending machines: We’ll be reintroducing vending machines in the foyer and facilities area, with snacks and coffee available.
• Facilities Refresh: In January, we’ll be redecorating the facilities and giving the entire area a makeover for a fresh look.
• Pontoon Replacements: During February and March, we’ll be replacing a significant number of pontoons and fingers on ‘A’, ‘D’, ‘E’, ‘H’, and ‘I’ pontoons.
• Wavescreen Work: We’re also continuing to invest in the wave screen and will be trialling a new composite board this year. If successful, we’ll replace the wave screen with composite material.

The team will also be working hard throughout the winter to ensure the marina is in top shape for the new season. After speaking with several of our berth holders, we’re excited to announce that we’ll be returning to our car park for next year’s berth holder party!

We remain committed to further improving Brixham Marina by putting you at the heart of everything we do. We’ll continue to strengthen our team and expand our events calendar with even bigger and better events.
