Highlights at Penton Hook Marina: News and updates for our customers
Firstly, a huge thank you from all of us at Penton Hook Marina to you — our fantastic berth holders and customers — for choosing to keep your boat with us or use our services throughout the year. What a year it has been!
Although the weather didn’t always play along, it’s been wonderful to see so many of you out on the water during the summer months, making the most of the season.
With winter almost upon us, our team has shifted focus to our winter maintenance programme, preparing the marina for the 2025 season. Ahead of this, let’s take a moment to reflect on some of the improvements, events, and services at Penton Hook Marina in 2024, and share updates on what’s planned next year.
Looking Back at 2024
The year got off to a slow start as high-water levels and heavy rainfall put the river on red boards. The marina team worked tirelessly, spending extra time checking over vessels and keeping berth holders informed of any issues.
- Spring Treats: As the warmer weather arrived, Spring saw our popular Berth Holder Easter Trolley of Treats, delivering Easter eggs and refreshments to those on board over the weekend.
- Facility Upgrades: In May, the West Harbour facility block underwent a full renovation, including the addition of a new laundry facility. These upgrades coincided with the Thames Valley Boat Show, which saw tenants and brokers showcasing at West Harbour while the new facilities officially opened.
- Team Changes: In the summer we said goodbye to Kelly and Matt as they moved on to pastures new. Stephane joined the team towards the end of April, and John, who started as a casual operative in May, became a full-time team member in July.
- New Amenities: In August, we installed a self-operated pump-out unit on the fuel berth. This mirrors the unit on Y pontoon, using the same tokens, making it easier for vessels to pump out without the need to book.
- Special Events: We were thrilled to host the 28th Veterans Cruise in collaboration with the Association of Dunkirk Little Ships and Penton Hook Yacht Club. This memorable event brought 22 historic vessels to the marina, with veterans gathering at the yacht club for celebrations. Talks are already underway for the 2025 Veterans Cruise!
Looking Ahead to 2025
We’re investing in infrastructure improvements across the site to enhance your experience:
- Pontoon Upgrades: Pontoons C, E, F, and G will undergo redecking works starting in December 2024, with completion in 2025.
- Crane Bay Redecking: Our crane bay pontoon is scheduled for redecking works in 2025.
- Y Pontoon Replacement: Plans are in place to upgrade Y Pontoon with new Micromesh decking
- Slipway Resurfacing: The marina slipway will be resurfaced, and the access gates will be upgraded to integrate with the site’s access card system.
