Highlights at Sparkes Marina: News and updates for our customers

We hope you’ve had an amazing 2024 season, with many more fantastic ones to come!

Reflecting on the past year, we’ve made some significant improvements to Sparkes Marina, and we’re proud of the progress. We’re confident you’ll agree these upgrades have made a real difference to the marina.

Upgrades to the Marina

• Pontoon Replacements: In the spring, we installed three new pontoon piers and fingers on C, D, and E pontoons, meaning all but F pontoon have now been replaced.
• Fuel Tank Upgrade: We replaced the fuel tanks, tripling their capacity to ensure fuel availability even during peak busy times.
• West Quay Wall Works: Late autumn saw the start of corrosion protection work along the entire west quay wall. Years of build-up have been removed, and a full reline has restored the wall back to full strength.
• Dredging: We began a full marina dredge in late 2024, with completion expected by February 2025. Once finished, the basin will be restored to its full depth, and we won’t need to dredge again for another five years. Thank you for your cooperation during this major operation.

A Thriving Dry Stack

This year marked our first full season with the dry stack, which has been a great success. As demand continues to grow, we’ll expand this product further in the coming months and years.

Community and Events

In June, we welcomed the Alex Lewis Trust during their Pig 2 Pig Challenge, an incredible 350-mile rowing and 649+ mile hand-cycling event. The team raised an amazing £30,000 for Hospitality Action, and it was an honour to support their journey.

Throughout the year, we reintroduced the Trolley of Treats on key dates and held our first ‘Living the Bream’ fishing competition, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The Trolleys will return in 2025, along with more fishing competitions and exciting new events—so keep an eye out for updates!

Looking Ahead to 2025

Phase 2 of the East Quay Wall Works will commence in April and is expected to be completed by late spring/early summer. We’ll do our best to keep any disruption to a minimum.

The ongoing improvements at Sparkes Marina demonstrate our commitment to providing the best possible facilities and services for our berth holders and visitors.
