Hamble Point Marina has been hosting a legend of the seas, the iconic yacht Maiden, for some essential deck painting by our skilled team at Desty Marine Hamble. This remarkable vessel, famed for breaking barriers and inspiring sailors worldwide, is now ready to continue her mission thanks to the dedication and expertise of local marine professionals.

A Story of Resilience and Legacy

Maiden rose to prominence in 1990 as the first yacht to compete in the Whitbread Round the World Race (now The Ocean Race) with an all-female crew, led by pioneering skipper Tracy Edwards MBE. Defying critics and smashing expectations, Maiden finished second overall in her class, becoming a beacon of inspiration for women in sailing and beyond.

Despite her historic success, Maiden’s journey wasn’t without challenges. Following her racing career, the yacht passed through multiple owners, was renamed, and ultimately fell into disrepair. By 2014, she was discovered abandoned and severely neglected in the Seychelles. Her fate seemed sealed, but Tracy Edwards and a dedicated team rallied to save her through crowdfunding and sponsorship, restoring Maiden to her former glory.
